While the new Russian satellite didn't get super close to any others, its behavior "could be considered unfriendly," said Slingshot's Audrey Schaffer, who until recently served as the director of space policy at the National Security Council.

There is room for further development in areas such as electronic warfare and signals intelligence. "These 'soft' components were not as accessible in the past 12 to 15 years when we were so busy in the Middle-East; for example, there is a real drive to invest in areas such as EWSI (Electronic Warfare and Signals Intelligence)," Brig. The Army Requirements Oversight Council will meet to approve the TLS-EAB program on July 9.
